It’s all about cucumbers here on a rooftop in East Harlem! Innovation’s Sustainable Careers program has students building, planting, and cultivating a wide variety of edible produce on our rooftop garden - keeping East Harlem fresh, healthy & GREEN!

Steve Ritz & the Innovation Sustainable Careers program have the roof covered in fresh edible produce! Last Wednesday students & staff picked corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplant grown by our own student-farmers.

Michael, along with Associate Director of Sustainable Careers Stephen Ritz & other Innovation students, have been working for months cultivating a beautiful rooftop garden that may soon be the largest public youth-led independent year-round food producing entity on the Island of Manhattan! Whew!

Innovation’s Sustainable Careers program takes our NYC rooftop to the next level - Marigolds, Broccoli, hot peppers, grapes & more!

Thanks to our Sustainable Careers program, in which students learn Urban Gardening techniques & marketing options for local produce, our rooftop is ready for the summer!

Innovation THINK TANK is an after school program focusing on social justice, activism, and relevant political issues effecting teenagers in Harlem & beyond. THINK TANK recently returned from a week-long practicum in New Orleans where students volunteered with local relief efforts, met with education leaders & community organizations, and visited Tulane University.

Persist, remove self-limiting beliefs, take risks/accept mistakes, escape every now and then, write/sketch things out, find patterns/create combinations, stay curious.
